How to get it in Virginia
Two documents: a prescription in your organization's name, and a standing order saying when trained staff may use it.
- If you are a school
- the Virginia standing order covers you. Register with the health department instead of finding your own prescriber.
- If you are a childcare program
- the Virginia standing order does not cover you, so you will need your own prescriber to sign one.
- If you are a camp, gym, restaurant or workplace
- the Virginia standing order does not cover you, so you will need your own prescriber to sign one.

Required[REQUIRED]IMPORTANT NUANCE: Virginia is the only state with a statutory statewide childcare epinephrine mandate, but the implementing Board of Education regulation has NOT been adopted. Proposed 8VAC20-781 was published Dec 2025 and drew a formal objection in Jan 2026. Not yet enforceable through licensing.
